12/6/2023 0 Comments Trackable golf ball![]() ![]() The problem with the use of this technology is that it is only possible in practice courts and the capital investment is enormous. Thus, when a ball lands on the netting surrounding a target, it rolls past an RFID reader antenna, thereby identifying where the ball has landed and awarding points accordingly and then the player can see on the screen where his or her ball landed. ![]() They have 200,000 golf balls containing passive RFID tag chip with a unique number encoded on it read at 548 points along the fairway, to help golfers view how far their balls reach after a hit. Would RFID work in your application? If so, I'm thinking you could go to Top Golf and get some of their balls, do a bit of research on the internet about how they work, and maybe read them yourself. You drive them out into various holes, traps and features to score points. It's sorta an amusement park / driving range concept where the balls have RFID tags in them, matched to the player at the time of T-off. Also, a box of 20 lake balls is not 20 quid so your value equation is fucked from the start.During Christmas I was in Naperville, IL and went to this place called "Top Golf". So, to sum it all up: to make this ball last long enough to be a "value" you have to build it so that it detracts from performance so no good player will want to play it and no high handicapper is likely to see the benefit from the analytics and probably still loses it anyway before it's a net positive on cost. If you build this ball to play like a top tier tour-level ball with a soft urethane cover, it's not gonna last 3-4 rounds worth of wedge shots and tree scuffs and cart path bounces. The analytics might be nice for a lower handicapper, but no low handicapper is going to want to play a super firm ball with a microchip in it that's not designed for performance.ĭesigning the ball more for performance inherently limits durability. You talk about the benefits of the analytics, but those aren't going to mean nearly as much to a higher handicapper. You're asking a higher handicapper to go 3-4 rounds without hitting a ball into water which just isn't going to be feasible for most folks at most courses. But if you hit it into a pond, that's gone. The handling time are 1-2 business days, tracking will be. Yes, if you hit it in some thick rough or into some trees you can get it back. International shipments utilise Australia Post or DHL Express, all costs are listed upon checkout. The problem is, not all lost balls are retrievable. Higher handicappers are the ones who stand to benefit the most in terms of being able to find a ball that may otherwise be lost. ![]() There's a real Catch-22 in the marketability of these balls.
